The New York City Chapter of Kairos Outside grew out of the Christ’s Church Outreach Program’s prison ministry initiative in 2009. We knew of the work of Kairos Prison Ministry International in bringing God’s love into the prisons (Kairos Inside and Kairos Torch), but it was in discovering this avenue for ministering to families of the incarcerated on the “Outside” that we felt we could be most active and able to gain support from the community of churches and volunteers throughout the New York City area. Seeing the massive need for a chapter in this area, we took on the task of formation, holding our first weekend in the Bronx that first year. Our goal, to build a growing network of support for women throughout New York City, was realized and we celebrated our 10th weekend retreat in November of 2014.

Mission
Our mission is to demonstrate God’s grace and love through Christian support for women residing in New York City and surrounding areas whose lives have been affected by the incarceration of a relative or friend.

About Kairos Prison Ministry
Kairos, meaning “God’s Special Time,” is an international organization that operates in over 300 state and federal correctional facilities, county jails and offender programs in the USA and over 200 overseas locations. Kairos conducts three types of ministries:
Kairos Inside, Kairos Outside, and Torch (for youth offenders).

Kairos Outside NYC Objectives
We invite women on the “outside” who are impacted by the incarceration of a loved one to be guests on a Weekend Retreat, at no cost to them. The weekend provides a safe, loving environment where we share the love of Christ through talks, meditations, fellowship, prayers, song and celebrations, with many small surprises to fill their lives and ours with the real experience of Agape (Unconditional Love).

How Can I Help?
There are many opportunities to get involved, such as serving on a weekend team, providing background support for one or more hours on the weekend as an “Angel,” by making or purchasing small gifts of love “Agape” which the team will distribute on the weekend, and by attending the a Closing Ceremony. The next closing will take place on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at 2:30 pm at the Bishop Molloy Retreat House 8645 Edgerton Blvd, Jamaica, NY 11432.
