Ossining Prison Ministry, Inc. was founded in 1994 and incorporated later that year. For the past 20 years the ministry grew from a simple table of hospitality at Sing Sing Correctional facility to a program supported by trained volunteers who provide a breakfast of welcome in the visitors’ trailer and games and toys in the correctional facilities visitors’ room. The ministry occasionally helps with transportation costs for visiting families and other related expenses.
The stated mission of the Ossining Prison Ministry is:
To provide support services for inmates of the Sing Sing Correctional Facility and any other correctional institutions within the County of Westchester and any adjoining Counties, their visitors and families to include, but not limited to, provide free services consisting of a comfortable area to accommodate visitors in all extremes of weather; caring persons who listen, counsel and pray when appropriate; transportation to and from the facilities when needed; meals, snacks, and infant and child care.
