The Bishop Tharp (Business and Technology) Institute is located in the southwest of Haiti in the city of Les Cayes, BTI is currently a two year, but shortly will be a 4 year post-secondary university affiliated with the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti. The institute operates with a board of directors, chaired by the Bishop of Haiti, and made up of representatives of various constituents of the United States and Haiti.
The model for BTI is a US community college providing business management skills. Nearly 70% of the students of BTI are women. Over 65% of the students have been successfully placed in jobs in Haiti with industrial, services and financial businesses, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and Departments of the Haitian Government.
Mission Teams
Periodic trips are made to BTI with interested Christ’s Church parishioners. Among other activities, Christ’s Church has assisted in the rebuild and maintenance of the BTI computer lab, conducted educational seminars and for the past four years our parishioner, Mr Earl Trussell was a lead faculty member and senior advisor to the Head of the School.
Mission and Purpose
BTI offers two associate degrees: an Associate of Applied Science in Business Management and an Associate of Applied Science in Computer Support Technology. BTI graduates are prepared to continue their studies in business management or computer technology at four-year universities in Haiti or the United States. Alternatively, graduates are prepared to assume skilled jobs in business management or computer technology, or to form and operate their own businesses.
BTI also offers a variety of continuing education and community education seminars, courses, programs and business consulting services in support of the educational and economic development of Les Cayes and its surrounding areas of southwest Haiti.
Contributions and Support
BTI depends upon a multiple sources for financial support, including tuition and fees, contracts for business services, and individual and corporate donations.
